Buttermilk Scones

Recipe makes approximately 6 scones.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
2 Tbsp granulated sugar
2 1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1 stick cold unsalted butter
1 egg yolk
1/4 cup + 2 Tbsp shaken buttermilk
Turn oven to 400 degrees. Butter baking pan or use parchment paper.
To make the sconces
1. In a bowl combine the first 5 ingredients.
2. Cube the cold unsalted butter into small bits, 1/4" size. Add to bowl.
3. Add the egg yolk and 1/4 cup of shaken buttermilk. Mix together until combined but do not over mix. It'll be sticky.
4. Flour your work surface and roll out dough. Cut into 6 roughly even squares. Loosely gather and place on baking sheet.
5. Brush the top of the scones with buttermilk.
6. Bake for 16 mins until lightly golden brown on top.
