Walnut Shortbread Crust

Blog post

Recipe makes approximately 6-8 4" tart shells or 1 10" tart shell.

Ingredients:
2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1/2 cups confectioners sugar
1 cup finely ground walnuts
2 sticks unsalted butter
1 tsp vanilla extract

Turn oven to 350 degrees.

1. In a food processor ground the walnuts.
2. In a large bowl combine the flour, salt, confectioners sugar, ground walnuts, and vanilla extract.
3. Melt the butter in a skillet or microwave and pour into bowl. Stir until combined.
4. Evenly disperse the crust into the tart shells and press into place.
5. Place a small piece of parchment paper over the pre-baked crust and add baking weights.
6. Bake for 18-20 mins until very light golden brown. Remove the parchment paper and with the back of a spoon carefully push down any crust that has risen.
7. Pour your mixture, blood orange curd, and bake for approximately 20 minutes (mini tarts, large tart may require more time) until the curd has set. It'll be ever so slightly jiggly in the center.
