Savory Pies

I can't believe it's almost the middle of October - where did the past couple months go? To be fair I've been busy with work, also doing some soul searching with what my career goals are now that my bakery business has been closed for nearly 6 months (wow!). I'm thinking some combination of marketing, hospitality, and exploring the foodie world would be fabulous!! I love reading other food blogs and following the latest culinary and cocktail culture trends on social media.

Sausage, Apple & Sage

For me, now that the season is changing I find myself getting into the fall/winter nesting mood and have really enjoyed making savory pies. The fall season kicked off for me a couple weeks ago when I was on vacation in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. So gorgeous and we had perfect timing from Mother Nature with the changing of the Aspen trees.

One of my new favorite cookbooks is simply called "Pie" by Angela Boggiano. It's dedicated to pie in all flavors - meats, vegetables, fruits. It's a dangerously delicious cookbook and I can't wait to cook my way through it. The sausage, apple & sage pie was the first recipe I chose, and let's just say that dinner was enjoyed!

Also while on vacation I enjoyed making several of my favorite fall entrees for my boyfriend's family. I made a gluten free version of a white pizza with roasted butternut squash, tomatoes, sage, and a mix of cheese; fontina and blue. Lots of flavor and super simple!! Also a crowd pleaser was the chicken pot pie. For both entrees I cheated a little and went the semi-homemade route  (I know, not as good as homemade, but...) using a pre-made gluten free pie crust for the veggie pizza, and sheets of puff pastry for the pot pie.
